Why is it so hard to create pet wipes?
On the surface, pet wipes appear to be a simple consumer product. We see them everywhere and assume:
a) they’re obvious,
b) their flaws are “just how it is.”
But the reality? Pet wipes are one of the hardest products to get right in pet care. Here’s why so many brands still struggle — and why we built Modern Kindred differently:
1️⃣ Preservation vs. Safety
Wipes live in a moist, sealed environment that bacteria love. Many brands add harsh preservatives to keep them shelf-stable. Others go too gentle, and you open a pack that already smells moldy. Both are unsafe for pets.
2️⃣ Packaging Challenges
A wipe pack isn’t just a bag — it’s four sealed sides, a seam running across, a cutout opening, a resealable sticker, and a plastic lid. Each part has to work seamlessly: the sticker must actually stick, the lid must close tightly, and one wipe should dispense cleanly without pulling three more.
3️⃣ The Wipes Themselves
Material matters. Size matters. Thickness matters. Folding method matters. Most factories default to the same small, thin wipes. But should a wipe pop up ready for the next use, or lie flat? Should it be biodegradable? These decisions change the entire user experience.
4️⃣ Bringing It All Together
Even if each part works in isolation, the formula can affect how wipes dispense, or how the fold holds up. One weak link makes the whole product frustrating — or worse, unsafe.
👉 At Modern Kindred, we built our wipes to solve these problems. Extra-large, hypoallergenic, fragrance-free, with strong yet safe preservation — and packaging designed to be as convenient as it is protective.
